I need to verify several IBAN numbers before making transfers. Got payment details from new contractors and I'm about to send significant amounts, but I want to make absolutely sure these numbers are correct before hitting send. One wrong digit and the money could end up in the wrong account or get stuck in processing limbo. Where can I check these IBANs to confirm they're valid?

Most banks have some level of IBAN validation built into their payment systems that will catch formatting errors. You can also manually check the structure by looking at the country code and length requirements for that specific country. Some online tools exist that validate the checksum digits, though I'm not sure how reliable they all are.

Bank validation catches obvious formatting mistakes, but it won't tell you if the account actually exists or belongs to the right person. The IBAN structure includes checksum verification, but you need a proper validator to run those calculations accurately. You can use free IBAN checker here: https://nimlab.eu/iban-checker/ . It validates the format, verifies the checksum digits, and shows you which bank and country the account belongs to. Gives you an extra layer of confidence before you authorize large transfers to unfamiliar recipients.
