mmoset Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is now available. For more info, read our Black Ops 7 reviews. The new game is still too fresh to be included in our list, but we're eager to revisit the past.

With titles from Raven Software, Treyarch Games, Sledgehammer, and Infinity Ward - as well as some of its best multiplayer games - the series has produced some of the most popular FPS games in their respective years. Please read below to learn our ranking of Call of Duty.

     10. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Infinity Ward used Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as a guide rather than a template. The result of this campaign is not a rewrite of the Call of Duty rulebook. However, it reinforces the rules of engagement of the new generation.

This game is fast, frantic and full of action. It's more important to play strategically than ever. Those who still rely on their old style will die quickly. It's not a new Call of Duty, but it is a fun game with a fantastic visual/audio experience. Read our Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Review, in which we referred to it as "brutal" and "utterly unrelenting".

     9. Call of duty: WW2

Call of Duty: WW2 might seem strange for going back to the Second World War following so much futuristic technology and the previous games trip into space, but it works. (Read our Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare reviews for more information). It's almost like a restart, with the reset of all future tech. The narrative of the single-player game suffers in the first half, but the majority of it is filled with big set piece moments.

But it's multiplayer that wins. It's the multiplayer that really wins here. Without drones or satellites, the action is centered around reactions and spatial awareness. It's much more rewarding. It's also interesting to see the new Headquarters mode. This creates an environment similar to Destiny Tower where players can hang out. Read more about this in our Call Of Duty: WW2 reviews, where we mentioned that "getting the gimmicks out of it creates a purer experience of point and shoot".

     8. Call of Duty 2

Call of Duty 2 was one of best Xbox 360 games and the greatest WW2 shooters of our time. Call of Duty 2 was a key game in launching the HD era of video gaming. It also demonstrated the importance of Xbox Live for console gaming. Infinity Ward's FPS, while charmingly retro now, still highlights what makes the series so engaging.

Call of Duty 2 has a globe-trotting, spectacle-filled campaign with cutting-edge graphics and an incredibly tight multi-player. It is the foundation of the series' rapid ascent to dominance. This classic game is still surprisingly fresh if you are able to appreciate the old school. It is back-compatible with Xbox One, Xbox Series X and other consoles. Read our Call Of Duty 2 Review, in which we called the game "the new daddy" of WW2 shooters.

     7. Call of Duty Modern Warfare

Call of Duty released a new game in 2019 with the same title as a 2007 release. This is not a remake of the Modern Warfare games, but a reimagining of them that will rebuild the Modern Warfare Series from the ground-up. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 is different than its predecessors, as it does not feel like a collection of disparate missions which are shot one after the other without much thought.

Feels like you're driving the action at breakneck speeds. It feels good, sounds good, and looks great. The two sequels to Modern Warfare are just not as good, despite being a fantastic first step in refreshing the Modern Warfare Franchise. Read our Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Review, in which we said that it was "clearer in vision and execution than the spiritual predecessor"
